The Group One performed Spieth has been retired to Aquis stud in the Hunter Valley for the upcoming breeding season.
The son of Thorn Park was arguably unlucky not to finish his career a dual Group One winner after going down by the barest of margins in the 2016 Darley Classic (1200m) and the 2017 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m).
“Spieth retires as one of the unluckiest sprinters in recent times,” Aquis CEO Shane McGrath said.
“We will be committing 30 of our very best mares to Spieth, highlighted by the dam of Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Santa Ana Lane.
“He will be limited to a book of 175 mares in his first season. There won’t be a better looking or better value first season sire in the Hunter this year than Spieth."
The son of Thorn Park, who was sold through Trelawney Stud's 2014 New Zealand Bloodstock draft, is a spitting image of his champion sire and hails from the family of champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur which bodes well for his stud career.
He finished his career with 5 wins and four minor placings from 18 starts and A$626,600 in prize money.
Spieth will stand for a fee of $16,500 incl GST for his first season in 2018.
