Purple Sector proves too strong at Randwick

Trelawney Stud graduate Purple Sector looks to have hit his straps this preparation posting a stylish victory at Randwick on Saturday.

Trainer John Thompson credited a gelding operation for the successful performance which came off the back of a second placing at Rosehill last month.

"He went really well today," Thompson said. "We had him gelded before this prep, and the dry tracks are a key for him. The gelding was the right thing to do.

He probably runs at Rosehill in a couple of weeks in the Rosehill Cup."

Under Rachel King, the five-year-old son of Pins found himself landing in the perfect trailing position, one horse off the fence and the five-year-old travelled sweetly throughout.

When King asked Purple Sector to show her what he had approaching the 300m, he didn’t disappoint and within 100m it was a case of times and margins – checking in three lengths clear of the remainder of the field.

Bred by Trelawney Thoroughbreds, Purple Sector was purchased by Duncan Ramage under his DGR Thoroughbreds banner out of Trelawney's 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock yearling draft.
